#AN221129SU – CompleteView Installer Displays Version Error when Updating Legacy Systems to 7.1.X

Title: CompleteView Installer Displays Version Error when Updating Legacy Systems to 7.1.X.

Date: 11/29/2022

Description:
The CompleteView Recording Server installer may generate an error when upgrading a Legacy system to 7.1.X. The installer states that a CompleteView version older than 6.1.2 has been detected, even if 6.1.2 (or 6.1.3) has been successfully installed on the machine. The error prevents upgrading to 7.1.X. Legacy systems are defined as those previously or currently running CompleteView 4.X.

Issue Summary:
After successfully installing CompleteView version 6.1.2 or 6.1.3 Recording Server on a machine that previously hosted a 4.X deployment, the 7.1.X installer may generate an error stating that “A version earlier than 6.1.2 was detected and cannot be upgraded.” The installer advises the user to “…upgrade to 6.1.2 or higher before then upgrading to 7.1.0 or higher.”

The issue stems from references in the Windows Registry to Legacy versions of CompleteView, which created and wrote values to a different key than modern iterations. The key remained in the Registry after upgrades, and confuses the installer into believing the older version of CompleteView is still installed on the machine.

Issue Workaround:
The older key must be deleted from the Windows Registry and the installer re-run.

Note that editing the Registry should be performed by qualified personnel, and this documentation presumes a sufficient level of proficiency to do so.

Steps:

  1. Launch the Windows Registry editor (regedit.exe).
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Salient\CompleteView
  3. Right Click on …\CompleteView, and select Delete.
  4. Restart the system.
  5. Re-run the installer.

Vulnerable Products: CompleteView 7.1.X Recording Server installer being run on Legacy systems

Unaffected Products: Management Server, Desktop Client

Pending Resolution: The installer included with CompleteView version 7.2 will address the issue.
